There has been a lot of discussion over the issue of "father figures" in DC sports recently. Colin Cowherd has decided to get up on his soapbox and for some insane reason question John Wall's leadership qualifications due to the absence of a father growing up. The fact is that many people grow up and do just fine without a father or mother and happen to excel. Sometimes, they manage to do so despite that authority figure having his own issues and legal problems.
↵Take running back Davin Meggett for example. His father, former return specialist Dave Meggett, was recently sentenced to 30 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct and burglary. He is by all accounts not a very nice man, as he has arrested several times previously for sexual assault. Despite all his NFL success, Meggett has been unable to stay out of trouble and will now pay his debt to society.
↵However, we don't judge Davin Meggett's accomplishments based on the actions of his father. His standout season should be considered on it's own merits. And for those people pushing the "apple doesn't far fall from the tree" argument, you should grow up and learn to gain some perspective.
