For the second night in a row, the Maryland Terrapins mounted a large comeback to attempt to advance in the 2K Sports Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament. Yet for the second night in a row, the Terrapins came up short.
Illinois went on an 8-0 run early in the second half to give the Illini a significant lead, and they were up by 10 points with as few as five minutes remaining in the game. The Terrapins came back to slim the lead, led by Jordan Williams and his six points in the final two minutes. However, the Illini held on for an 80-76 win.
Williams was tied for the team lead in scoring at 17 points with Terrell Stoglin. The freshman point guard went three of seven from behind the three-point line, showing a knack for scoring that will be a big help for the Terrapins come ACC play later this year. Williams and Dino Gregory each had double doubles for Maryland as the Terrapins outrebounded the Illini 39-26.
Illinois proved to be the better team in the end though. The Big Ten powerhouse was led by Demetri McCamey, who had 20 points and added seven assists.
The Terrapins fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers last night, and fell to 3-2 overall in the 2010 season.
