Friday afternoon is usually a time for hilarious, ridiculous stories to go into your weekend. Unfortunately, however, they usually have to be true. So it is with great sadness that I let you know that, contrary to something that was said on ESPN Radio 980 this afternoon, Steve Francis is not the highest-paid player in the Chinese Basketball Association.
↵What we do know is that Francis is in the league itself. The Beijing Ducks have reportedly signed Francis to play for his team, which means Francis will join guys like Stephon Marbury, Ricky Davis and Fred Jones in the league. It would have been even more hilarious if he was being paid more than all of them, as ESPN 980 threw out there earlier today.
↵But alas, according to an official for the Beijing Ducks, Francis is not the highest-paid player in the league.
↵↵↵↵↵"The only thing I can say is that Francis' salary is not the highest of the CBA foreign players - he is not even among the top few players," Beijing Ducks official Yuan Zhao told the China Youth Daily of Francis' reported 800,000-dollar contract.
↵
This is probably the part where I mention that $800,000 isn't even as much as the NBA minimum salary. Poor Stevie.
