Greivis Vasquez was one of the most beloved Maryland Terrapins in recent memory, and it appears Maryland is going to honor him for his career sooner rather than later. Vasquez, who is currently in his rookie season in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies, will likely have his jersey honored this year, with February 20 being the obvious date, according to Gary Williams.↵
It appears Greivis Vasquez might make a return trip to Comcast Center on Feb. 20 for a possible ceremony to honor his No. 21 jersey.↵
"We're trying to do it during the All-Star weekend," Williams said. "I believe that's the N.C. State game, if it does happen. Nothing's been decided yet. We're trying to get some things done with that."↵
As Jeff Barker of the Baltimore Sun notes, that means Vasquez wouldn't miss any games. Not that Vasquez doesn't deserve to have his number honored, because he certainly does, but I do find it interesting that it's happening so quickly. Maybe that's just me, though.↵
Either way, it was bound to happen at some point, and Vasquez deserves it. Sooner rather than later works. Congrats to Greivis.
