ACC Basketball Preseason Poll: Maryland Picked To Finish Ninth

The ACC preseason basketball poll is out and the Maryland Terrapins are picked to finish ninth in the ACC. Despite Maryland being picked so low, freshman Nick Faust did get one vote for ACC Freshman of the year. This means that someone thought Faust would be better than both highly touted James McAdoo and run away favorite Austin Rivers. Faust is likely to get significant playing time, so that likely had something do with him garnering a vote.

Ben Broman over at Testudo Times, SB Nation's Maryland blog, doesn't have much of a problem with Maryland's slotting, but he does question some others.

We've been critical of this thingamigs in the past, primarily because the sportswriters have an unrepresentative Carolina bias in terms of location. But I have to say that things were pretty well on the up-and-up here, and are more or less how I would've slotted them. My only grumble is that I do think Wake Forest will surprise some people this year, and should certainly be ahead of GT and potentially Maryland as well.

Here's how the poll shook out for the ACC:

1-North Carolina

2-Duke

3-Florida State

4-Virginia

5-Miami

6-Virginia Tech

7-Clemson

8-NC State

9-Maryland

10-Georgia Tech

11-Wake Forest

12-Boston College
