Kenny Tate Injury Likely To Sideline Maryland Star Defender Vs. Georgia Tech

The Maryland Terrapins' star linebacker Kenny Tate has just been listed as doubtful for the game against No. 13 Georgia Tech Saturday in Atlanta, according to the Washington Post. The injury is unspecified, but it appears he will be unable to go against the ACC's Coastal Division-leading Yellow Jackets.

Losing Tate, widely believed to be the best player on the Maryland defense, could be huge for the Terrapins as they face the No. 1 ranked rushing offense in the country in the Yellow Jackets. So far this season, the Terrapins are 2-2 (1-0) with wins over Miami and Towson and losses to West Virginia and Temple. The Yellow Jackets are 5-0 (2-0) and hold the advantage in the Coastal Division after defeating North Carolina and North Carolina State in the past two weeks.

Should he miss the game, Tate will also be missed in pass coverage, as the Jacket's first-year starter at quarterback, Tevin Washington, has their passing game playing well above its pre-season expectations. Tate was formerly a safety before being moved to linebacker in the off-season.

Tate has played in all four of the Terrapins contests to date, recording 35 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
