The 2011 season is coming to a close, and unfortunately for area teams like Navy and Maryland, the end to their respective seasons will be at the conclusion of the regular season, as both teams have been eliminated from bowl contention.
Maryland is 2-9 (1-6) after Saturday's 31-10 loss to Wake Forest, and has one game remaining against a surging NC State. The Terrapins' once promising season, after beating Miami, was ended by consecutive losses to West Virginia and Temple. It was muddled with injuries to key players and a quarterback controversy that was never settled. To this point, their lone FBS win was in their first game against Miami.
For Navy, their season has not been quite the nightmare of Maryland, but their three-point loss to San Jose State on Saturday sealed their bowl fate. At 4-7, their game next week against Army will not matter, at least as far as bowl implications are concerned.
