The Maryland Terrapins fought harder than most expected in their ACC/Big 10 Challenge game against Illinois at Comcast Center, but their efforts fell short. A 35-31 halftime lead was quickly erased, and Illinois fought off the best efforts of Terrell Stoglin to come away with a 71-62 win. The loss drops the Terps to 3-3 on the young season, with losses to Alabama, Iona and Illinois. The Fightlng Illini move to 7-0 on the year.
Terrell Stoglin scored a game-high 25 points in the loss, hitting 4-8 from three-point range, including a number of shots late in the game. James Padgett added 16 points, but he was the only other Terps player in double figures. Sam Maniscalo was outstanding for Illinois, scoring 22 points and hitting 5-8 from three-point range. Two other Illinois player scored in double figures to lead the way. Freshman Nick Faust struggled for the Terps, scoring just five points on 2-11 from the field.
