The Maryland Terrapins will try to finish the 2011 college football season strongly after a miserable month of October derailed their chances at making a Bowl Game appearance. The Terrapins (2-6, 1-4 ACC) will try to snap a four-game losing streak this weekend when they host the Virginia Cavaliers (5-3, 2-2) on Saturday afternoon.
Not much has been going right for Randy Edsall's club since they last won on October 1st against Townson. They've been outscored by a combined 93-150 during the skid. The Terps might be able to establish some rhythm offensively and continue running the football effectively, as Cameron Johnson, the Cavaliers' top DL, is questionable with lower extremity injury. Johnson is the Cavaliers' sacks leader (three) and second on the team in tackles for loss (7.5).
Ruled out for Saturday's game on the Virginia defensive front seven are:
- OLB Daquan Romero (lower extremity)
- DT Tyler Smith (lower extremity)
The Cavs' leader in tackles for loss, DT Matt Conrath (lower extremity), is listed as probable. He'll almost certainly play. But all told, the Cavaliers' defensive line may be more vulnerable to a big day rushing from Maryland. That might be just what the doctor ordered for a Terps' offense that's failed to put up more than 17 points in its past two games.
