Maryland Basketball Will Not Appeal Alex Len's Suspension, Mark Turgeon Says

Despite having a lack of depth and just seven other healthy scholarship players, Maryland basketball will not be appealing the NCAA's 10-game suspension for incoming recruit Alex Len, according to coach Mark Turgeon. Via Liz Clarke of the Washington Post.

Characterizing the NCAA’s ruling regarding Alex Len’s eligibility as "more than fair," Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon said Thursday that university officials probably wouldn’t appeal the suspension that will sideline the 7-foot-1 center for the first 10 games of the season.

Len was suspended for violating the NCAA's amateur rules. There was a question as to whether he would be able to play at all this season, which is why the Terps are not pushing the needle on his 10-game suspension.

Len, who is technically a sophomore transfer after playing in college overseas for a year, will be allowed to play in the Terps' exhibition games and practices. Maryland has an exhibition game against NAIA club Northwood on Friday.
