The match up between the Toledo Rockets and the Air Force Falcons on paper looked to be a high scoring affair and after the first quarter they certainly did not disappoint, combining for 38 total points in just 15 minutes of play. Air Force was able to stop Toledo on their opening drive, limiting to a field goal but the Rockets missed it wide left. After a 15-yard punt by Air Force on their next drive, Toledo got the ball back and went right down the field for the score.
Toledo scored 14 unanswered points thanks to a Terrance Owens touchdown pass to a wide open Bernard Reedy in the endzone, followed up by a 41-yard touchdown run by Adonis Thomas. Air Force wouldn't back down however, as quarterback Tim Jefferson Jr. took off on third and long for a 22-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to 14-7.
Toledo was quick to respond to the score however when Eric Page returned the kickoff for 87 yards and a touchdown to put the Rockets up 21-7. On Air Force's next drive however, Jonathan Warzeka took an option pitch 60 yards down to the 3-yard line where Mike DeWitt punched the ball in for the score, as Air Force trails Toledo 21-14 entering the second quarter.
