2011 Bowl Projections: North Carolina Potentially Headed To Military Bowl

While many bowl projections have Wake Forest playing in the 2011 Military Bowl, it appears the chances of that are unlikely. The Demon Deacons are one of six ACC teams with at least five conference wins, and due to the ACC's one-loss rule preventing bowls from picking teams with more than one additional conference loss than another eligible teams, that means one of the bigger ACC bowl games will likely have to select Wake Forest.

So who does that leave for the Military Bowl? It appears that North Carolina is the most likely leftover team. The Tar Heels are bowl-eligible at 7-5, but finished just 3-5 in the ACC. As such, they cannot go to a bigger bowl than Wake Forest. The most likely scenario then is that the bigger bowls lock up the top six ACC teams, leaving the Tar Heels and potentially North Carolina State (4-4 in the ACC) left over. The Wolfpack would probably then end up going to the Belk Bowl in Charlotte.

Whichever ACC team ends up being selected would likely play Temple, since Navy is not bowl-eligible.
