It's looking more and more like the 2011 Military Bowl will end up including North Carolina as the ACC's representative. North Carolina State, who was also a potential candidate for the game, has been invited to the Belk Bowl in Charlotte instead, according to Dave Stone of the News Observer.
The Wolfpack finished 4-4 in the ACC and 7-5 overall, meaning they could have been selected to the Military Bowl. With them going to the Belk Bowl instead, the Military Bowl will likely fall back on the Tar Heels, who finished 3-5 in the conference and 7-5 overall. No higher bowl can select North Carolina over Wake Forest due to the Demon Deacons being 5-3 in the ACC. The ACC has a rule that bowls can only drop down to select a team who finished worse in the conference if there's a one-loss difference between the two teams.
North Carolina would likely end up playing Temple. The game will take place at RFK Stadium on December 28.
