Due to a surprising turn of events, the 2011 Military Bowl will not feature an ACC team after all. Instead, the game will be between Air Force, who fills the role of the service academy, and Toledo out of the Mid-American Conference, at least according to a report by Frank Schwab of the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Initially, it looked like North Carolina would be the ACC's representative, but Virginia Tech reportedly heading to the Sugar Bowl elevated several ACC teams. North Carolina is instead heading to the Independence Bowl to play Missouri, according to a report.
Air Force finished 7-5 this season, while Toledo finished 8-4, winning seven of its last eight games.
Game date, time: 4:30 p.m. Eastern, December 28.
Location: RFK Stadium, Washington D.C.
TV channel: ESPN/EPSN3
2010 winner and loser: Maryland, East Carolina
