Both teams were at-large selections, and both were somewhat surprising choices. In particular, the Hokies were a shock to many, getting a berth despite losing, 38-10, to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.
Nevertheless, Virginia Tech, who has two losses to Clemson this season, is in the game. The Wolverines, meanwhile, are 10-2 this season, having finished off their campaign with a thrilling win over rival Ohio State.
