Since the opening tip-off, only one team has led tonight. The 19th ranked North Carolina Tar Heels took the lead early in the game, and built upon it throughout the half.
The Maryland Terrapins were within striking distance in the early stages of the game. But their chances of winning have slowly started to slip away, and are now trailing far behind their opponents. You might even say that tonight's game so far is a microcosm of Maryland's season. If the Terrapins lose tonight, they would still have a chance to reach the NCAA Tournament. But that chance is getting slimmer by the day, and might require a small miracle.
Neither team is necessarily shooting well tonight (both are currently just under 35% from the field), but three-point shooting has made the difference so far for North Carolina. The Tar Heels have hit five of their 13 three-point attempts, while Maryland hasn't made a single one. UNC's Tyler Zeller leads all scorers with 14 points, while Terrell Stoglin is Maryland's leading scorer with 11 points.
Although the Terrapins trail, Jordan Williams continues to put on a rebounding clinic. The sophomore has 12 boards already at the break, but the Tar Heels have 14 offensive rebounds.
