Seth Greenberg's squad was unable to earn an NCAA berth despite going 9-7 in the ACC and winning two games in their conference tournament. Their tournament run ended when they lost to Duke, and fans of the Hokies had to wonder if they would be in the NCAA tournament.
But after the Selection Show earlier today, the Hokies learned their fate would not include the NCAA Tournament. So the Hokies had to settle for the next best thing.
The Hokies seeding in the NIT might also lend credence to the fact that were very close to earning an NCAA bid. They are a 1 seed in this tournament, and one could argue that there are teams who made the NCAAs who had inferior tournament resumes than the Hokies.
