Randy Edsall Is 'Shocked' With Maryland's Academic Situation

Academics at Maryland, particularly among its football and basketball athletes, is always a sore subject for anyone. Talk to any Maryland fan about those pesky Academic Progress Report ratings, and you'll get a passionate defense about how misleading they are. So it's probably not a good thing when the team's new football coach is upset about his team's academic standing.

Earlier today, Randy Edsall gave a really jarring quote when discussing the fact that two players had to change positions to account for a lack of depth due to academic issues. He was talking specifically about running backs, which means one of D.J. Adams, Davin Meggett or Gary Douglas is in academic trouble. But more fundamentally, he didn't seem too thrilled with the whole situation he is dealing with right now. Enjoy this one, Terps fans.

"I was a little bit shocked about what I saw here from an academic standpoint."

Edsall said he "didn't inherit a very good situation here in terms of the academics," taking what seems like a pretty clear shot at former coach Ralph Friedgen and the academic support system that currently exists at Maryland. This means we're going to need to talk about academics at Maryland again. Who else is excited?
