Ryan Williams Drafted By Cardinals: How Hokies Running Back Fits In Arizona

Former Virginia Tech Hokies running back Ryan Williams will be heading west after being drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals. Williams should be happy to hear where he landed, because he could have the opportunity to earn significant playing time early in his first season in Arizona.

The Cardinals ranked dead last in the NFL in rushing in 2010, with just 86.8 yards per game on the ground. Aside from that, Arizona's leading rusher from last season Tim Hightower will be a free agent this year, leaving Chris Beanie Wells as the only other qualified starter in the Cardinals backfield.

Williams will be joining an offense that has not yet solved its quarterback position though. Many thought that the Cardinals would target Blaine Gabbert in the first round, but they instead elected to focus on defense, selecting Patrick Peterson of the LSU Tigers with the fifth overall pick.
