Maryland Football Spring Game: Danny O'Brien Leads Red To 35-7 Win

The Maryland Football Spring game couldn't have fallen on a nicer day for Randy Edsall and his team. In the end, the Red team dominated the White team 35-7. Let's have a look at some stats.

Danny O'Brien led the Red team to victory, completing 70 percent of his passes (16 for 23) for 199 yards, including a 65-yard strike to wide receiver Ronnie Tyler (3 catches, 99 yards, 2 TD's). O'Brien did through two interceptions.

Rushing the ball, Davin Meggett gained 73 yards on 12 carries and had one touchdown. DJ Adams had 56 yards on 13 carries. Both ran for the Red team.

CJ Brown quarterbacked the white team and completed nine of his 24 passes for 96 yards. He threw one pick and no touchdowns.

It's unclear exactly how much there is to take from this game. Randy Edsall made it clear that the defense would be playing vanilla (no blitzing, no complex cover packages) and the offense wouldn't open up the playbook. In all, it was good to see O'Brien back on the field and leading the team and some of the freshman that got on the field (like Nigel King, who had 3 catches for 19 yards.)

The only thing we know for sure, is that the Red team will be enjoying the ceremonial steak dinner that goes to the victors. The White team? They'll be eating frank and beans.
