Maryland running back Da'Rel Scott has been drafted, just in the nick of time. The New York Giants selected Scott with the 221st pick of the seventh round in the 2011 NFL Draft, giving Scott a home on one of the Redskins' biggest rivals.
Scott was outstanding as a sophomore at Maryland, but had a poor, injury-plagued junior season and wasn't all that amazing his senior season either. However, he rekindled his draft stock by dominating at the NFL combine, posting a 4.34 time in the 40-yard dash. That was the fastest time for any running back.
The Giants have Ahmad Bradshaw firmly entrenched as the starter, but Scott could certainly help on third down. Also, and it's worth pointing this out for irony's sake, Bradshaw too was a seventh-round pick. Scott certainly is a very similar player to Bradshaw in terms of his strengths and weaknesses, so maybe he has a chance to be just as successful.
