The Terps released their depth chart for the first game of the year last week, and the most glaring mission was D.J. Adams, the presumed backup running back and touchdown vulture heading into this year. Without any comment from the coaching staff to accompany the release we had no idea what would cause Adams to lose his job, let alone his place on the active roster altogether.
Now we have that information. Adams will not play against Miami, along with Cody Blue, because he will serve a one game suspension for violating a team rule. According to Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times, Randy Edsall brought the issue to light during an ACC teleconference.
"D.J. won't be playing in the game against Miami --- he and Cody Blue," Edsall said. "We had a team situation. There was a team issue that was involved. Those two guys won't be available to play against Miami. Once the Miami game is behind us, we'll move forward."
Without Adams, the Terps have two freshmen behind starter Davin Meggett. This may become an issue if Meggett runs out of steam, or if the Terps need to run the ball a ton to be effective. It is assumed that this is only a one game ban that Adams is serving, so he should be available for their game against West Virginia in two weeks.
