The University of Maryland men's basketball team has long been rumored to be playing against the University of Kentucky in the first basketball game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn after it opens in 2012. That was mostly hearsay, until now, it seems
We still don't know who they'll be playing, or when they'll play, but it was confirmed on Wednesday by New Jersey Nets CEO Brett Yormark on Twitter that the Terps will play a game at the new arena after it opens for the 2012-13 basketball season.
The Barclays Center will be the new home arena for the New Jersey Nets NBA franchise, which is moving from its home in the Meadowlands to Brooklyn after the 2011-12 NBA season, if and when that actually happens.
This game will almost certainly be a huge opportunity for what will be a young UMD squad sporting head coach Mark Turgeon's first recruiting class since coming to College Park. There's no better way to make some noise as a ballclub than in the Big Apple.
