ACC Football Scores: Frank Beamer Wins 200th Game As Virginia Tech Edges East Carolina

It wasn't pretty, but Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer has his 200th career victory. Beamer's No. 11-ranked Hokies had a major battle against East Carolina, but got a fourth-quarter touchdown to hold on for a 17-10 victory in Greendale, N.C. That was the headliner among the early ACC football scores on Saturday.

The game was tied at 10 entering the fourth quarter before Virginia Tech chewed up the block on a 13-play, 89-yard drive that took nearly seven minutes. Josh Oglesby eventually ran it in for a 10-yard touchdown to give the Hokies the lead. East Carolina had two chances after that and even had a sure first down on second and 18 on the final drive that would have put them into Hokies territory, but the wide receiver dropped the ball and the game ended.

Here are your other early ACC scores:

  • North Carolina 24, Rutgers 22: It wasn't pretty, but the Tar Heels move to 2-0 after Rutgers turned it over on downs at their own 42 with two and a half minutes remaining.
  • Wake Forest 34, North Carolina State 27: After losing a heartbreaker against Syracuse last week, Wake Forest held on to a big lead this time. They led by as many as 21 points, but needed to stop North Carolina State on downs at the Wake Forest 38-yard line with 1:40 left.
  • Clemson 35, Wofford 27: What looked like a walkover turned into a massive scare, as Clemson trailed Wofford for much of the game before finally pulling away for the win in the fourth quarter.
  • No. 6 Stanford 44, Duke 14: Only 290 yards and four touchdowns for Andrew Luck. Pshhh.
