West Virginia Vs Maryland Final Score: Terps Rally Not Enough As They Lose 37-31

With the opportunity to win the game on a storybook ending, Danny O'Brien and Maryland just didn't have enough. Driving late in the fourth quarter down six points, O'Brien threw a comeback killing interception, and West Virginia won the game 37-31.

The Terps showed grit and desire, not to mention a much improved running game, in a remarkable second half in which they outscored West Virginia 21-10. In the end, the comeback fell short on the heels of turnovers, penalties and a defense that could not get off the field in big positions.

Maryland cut the West Virginia lead to three early in the fourth quarter and Byrd Stadium was electric. With the West Virginia offense sputtering, hope emerged on the Terps sideline, but West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith had too much game. Smith passed for almost 400 yards and three Mountaineers receivers broke 100 yards receiving.

Maryland finished the game with two more first downs than the Mountaineers, 29 to 27. Its comeback was led by the ground game. Davin Megget and DJ Adams showed flashed of brilliance and potential of a very strong 1-2 punch. Megget paced the Terps with 113 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Adams, returning from suspension, ran 12 times for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
