Maryland Football Recruiting: Friendship Running Back Albert Reid Commits To Maryland

The positive momentum that Maryland football has built up after hiring Mike Locksley as offensive coordinator continues today, as the Terps picked up a commitment from Friendship running back Albert Reid, according to sources via our very own Testudo Times.

Reid had originally committed to play for West Virginia, but decommitted last week and named Maryland among Iowa and Vanderbilt as the three teams he would ultimately decide between. In the end, Maryland was his choice.

Reid rates out as a four star running back on some of the services, and a three star on others, but make no mistake, he is a potential impact player at Maryland. He isn't the biggest guy, but he has speed to burn and has impressive balance when taking on blockers.

Reid combines with Wes Brown to give the Terps two highly touted, and perhaps more importanlty, local running back prospects in their 2012 class. They are different enough that they should compliment each other when they get to Maryland, so competition between them probably won't be an issue.

This is also an important commitment for the Terps because it means they took one from West Virginia, and losing local recruits to the Mountaineers had been a big problem for the Terps over the past few years. If they can even close down even that pipeline, it would go a long way towards helping boost their local recruiting.
