The Maryland Terrapins (10-3) begin Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday on the road, traveling to Raleigh, NC to take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack (11-4). Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET from the RBC Center, and the game will be televised on ESPNU. The Terrapins have won nine straight games against N.C. State.
This will be the ACC debut for the coaches of both squads, as Maryland's Mark Turgeon and N.C. State's Mark Gottfried are in their first year on the job at their respective schools.
It will be interesting to see how 7-foot-1 Ukrainian big man Alex Len plays in his first ACC contest. Since sitting out an NCAA-mandated 10 games for eligibility issues, Len has averaged 14 points and eight rebounds in three games, albeit against lesser competition in Albany, Samford, and Cornell. Maryland also boasts the ACC's current leading scorer in Terrell Stoglin (21.2 points ppg).
N.C. State will be looking to avoid their sixth straight season with at least 10 conference losses. The Wolfpack have not made the NCAA tournament since 2006.
