Maryland Terrapins senior defensive lineman A.J. Francis tweeted that he will participate in the East-West Shrine Game this January.
The East-West Shrine Game is essentially a college football all-star game that pits the best players from students attending schools in the eastern United States against the best players from students in schools in the western United States.
Francis recorded 42 tackles for the Terrapins in 2012, including 8.5 tackles for loss. Francis registered three and a half sacks, and also broke up five passes. Further, Francis managed to block three kicks for Maryland.
Earlier in December, Francis was named to the All-ACC team as an honorable mention.
Francis made major strides between 2011 and 2012. In 2011, Francis recorded only 31 tackles -- with only three tackles for loss. Francis registered just two sacks in 2011 as well, and only broke up one pass.
The East-West Shrine Game will be held on Jan. 19 at Tropicana Field in Florida.
