National Signing Day 2012: Randy Edsall Says Maryland's Class Shows Program Keeping Local Talent

The Maryland Terrapins pulled in 24 recruits on National Signing Day, including top running back prospect Wes Brown. They lost a pair of in-state recruits to the Florida St. Seminoles and lost D.J. Reader to the Clemson Tigers. They're still waiting to hear back from some recruits, but overall they have put together a solid 2012 class so far. The Terps' class is ranked No. 7 in the ACC and No. 43 overall as of now, according to Scout.com.

Inside Md. Sports beat reporter Jakob Engelke relayed some quotes via Twitter from Terps head coach Randy Edsall following Wednesday's announcements. Here is what Edsall had to say.

We really wanted to try to make in roads here in Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

I think this is the class that sets in motion the things that we want to do. We want to keep the local talent here at Maryland.

You don't worry about what happens last year ... I just wish everybody was as optimistic as all these recruits we signed today.

Edsall also focused on leadership in the press conference, citing that 21 of the 24 new Terrapins were captains as seniors.
