2012 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament: Maryland Defeats Georgia Tech 68-65, Captures 10th Championship

The third-seeded Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team defeated the fourth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 68-65 on Sunday, claiming the 2012 ACC Tournament Championship in the process.

The third-seeded Maryland Terrapins women's basketball team defeated the fourth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 68-65 on Sunday, claiming the 2012 ACC Tournament Championship in the process. It is the 10th title for the Maryland women's program. The Terrapins become the first school to win 10 ACC titles.

ACC Player of the Year Alyssa Thomas (17.0 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game) was spectacular for the Terrapins, scoring 29 points on 12 of 22 shooting from the floor. She grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists as well. Thomas scored 18 points in both the quarterfinal and semifinal games.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Tyaunna Marshall and Sasha Goodlett's 25 and 20 points, respectively. The Yellow Jackets turned the ball over 15 times, against just ten assists.

Georgia Tech was making just their second appearance in the ACC title game. Maryland now leads the all-time series between the two teams 46-18, and has won 11 of the past 14 contests.
