ACC Tournament 2012, Virginia Tech Vs. Clemson Recap: Hokies Advance, Will Face Duke In Quarterfinals

The No. 10 seed Virginia Tech Hokies are moving on to the quarterfinals of the 2012 ACC Tournament after a 68-63 win over Clemson. The Hokies went on a 10-2 run at the five minute mark to jump in front by nine with less than three minutes to play. Back-to-back three-pointers by Dorenzo Hudson and Erick Green kick-started the run. The Tigers hit just two field goals over a ten minute stretch as the Hokies pulled ahead.

The guard duo of Hudson and Green was huge Virginia Tech. Green led the Hokies with 24 points, hitting seven of 11 from the floor in an efficient game where he got penetration and got to the rim. The second team All-ACC selection was a perfect eight for eight from the free throw line, including two to ice the game with 20 seconds remaining. Hudson added 19 points to help the Tech survive and move on. The Hokies are now .500 at 16-16, and it was encouraging to see them finish off a game once they grabbed the lead late in the second half.

It gets much harder for Seth Greenberg's club on Friday, as they now face the No. 2 seeded Duke Blue Devils. In another heartbreaking close loss, Va. Tech fell in overtime to the Blue Devils a little less than two weeks ago at Cameron. They will get another shot on Friday at 7:00 PM
