Maryland head coach Randy Edsall has generally had good luck in keeping local recruits close to home. But he lost out on a good local prospect when Gonzaga defensive back Devin Butler announced on Twitter that he had committed to Notre Dame.

And the folks at SB Nation's Notre Dame blog, One Foot Down, are happy to have him if this report is any guide.
Devin definitely has some room to add weight, and I think he would probably need to get up to around 200 lbs to be fully effective at the CB spot on the Irish defense. He shows great anticipation and change of direction in coverage, especially in zone. He is a physical presence against the run, which is a big asset for CBs in this scheme.
One thing I think he needs to work on is wrapping the ball carrier up. I saw too many shoulder tackles on his highlight film. Other than that, he is a very dynamic player on the field and should have a very productive career in South Bend.
