The University of Maryland has officially granted Mychal Parker his release to pursue a transfer. The school confirmed that the sophomore would seek a transfer Monday afternoon.
Both Parker and Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon issued statements, portions of which were reprinted by The Washington Post.
From Turgeon:
We appreciate the effort and commitment Mychal made to our success and our program this season. We certainly wish him well as he continues his academic and athletic pursuits.
From Parker:
"I have come to the realization that it is in my best interests to continue my education and my career elsewhere. I'm very grateful for the opportunities and support I've gotten from the University of Maryland and from Coach Turgeon. I will always consider myself a Terp for life."
