West Virginia will enter this weekend's game ranked No. 8 in the nation as it hosts the Maryland Terrapins. Maryland, which currently sits 2-1 after losing to the UConn Huskies Saturday, will be looking to rebound from the loss. The game is scheduled to kick off at noon ET Saturday from Mountaineer Field and it will be televised nationally on FX.
The Terrapin defense is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation, allowing only 227 yards per game. It sits at No. 6 against the pass, allowing only 124 yards through the air. It will face a tough test in containing the WVU passing game, as Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey are currently the nation's top two receivers in terms of receptions per game.
Those two will be catching passes from Geno Smith, and Smith may now be the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy after Matt Barkley struggled against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday. Smith has completed 88 percent of his passes this season, and has thrown for nine touchdowns without a single interception.
Stefon Diggs will be one of the guys to watch for Maryland, as the freshman wideout has shown flashes of the talent that made him one of the most sought-after recruits in the nation last year. The Terps will look to get Diggs touches wherever they can, be it through the air or on the ground.
Oddsmakers have set West Virginia as early 27.5-point favorites for this one. The over/under has been set at 61.5 for Saturday's game.
