Scott Olsen, who was placed on on the disabled list all the way back on May 22nd, is set to take the mound for the Nationals on Thursday. Via Bil Ladson:

The Nationals have their rotation set until Saturday. The Nationals have decided that left-hander Scott Olsen will come off the disabled list and pitch against the Braves on Thursday. He will replace right-hander J.D. Martin in the rotation. It will be Olsen's first start since May 21st against the Orioles.

Olsen made five rehab starts with the Single-A Hagerstown Suns, allowing nine runs over twenty innings pitched. He was one of the early bright spots in the rotation, so a return to health could only buoy the Nationals in the dog days of August.

This Saturday, Scott Olsen will take the mound for the Single-A Hagerstown Suns in a rehab start:

Nationals Pitcher Scott Olsen will start for the Suns on Saturday in a rehab appearance. The lefty was 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA this season with the Nats before landing on the disabled list.

Olsen was shut down in early June due to elbow inflammation, right around the time that the Strasburg mania hit town and the Nationals began their yearly slide into obscurity. If he can get back on track, it would hopefully mean less Luis Atilano for the Washington faithful.

Scott Olsen hasn't pitched in over a month due to inflammation in his elbow. Now, it appears that it won't be nearly that long before we see him pitch again. Adam Kilgore of Nationals Journal is reporting that we might see Olsen before the end of July.

Scott Olsen, one of the team's most consistent pitchers until stiffness in his surgically repaired left shoulder forced him to the disabled list, is progressing during his rehab in Viera, Fla., and will be ready to return to the Nationals by around July 20, according to Olsen's agent, Matt Sosnick.

The way the Nationals have been playing recently, any contribution Olsen can give would be a welcome addition. They need all hands on deck right now. Hopefully when he returns, these issues which have plagued him for the better part of the last two seasons, will cease to be an issue.

Nationals starting pitcher Scott Olsen, who was placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury on May 22, has suffered a setback in his rehabilitiation. Not looking good.

This news surfaces only a week after Olsen threw 33 pitches in a bullpen session in Houston. Unfortunately, according to Nationals Journal, the session was far from smooth:

"It's just not really feeling as good as he had hoped," Manager Jim Riggleman said. "He was really making progress. He was really excited about basically coming off the disabled list at the time it was time. The last couple times he went out and threw, he said, 'You know what? I just don't feel right.' "

Olsen was 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA in eight starts for the Nationals before his injury. The timing of his return is still unknown.
