Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Jake Peavy had his best outing in a Chicago White Sox uniform, as the right-hander tossed the fourth shutout of his career in a slim 1-0 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Peavy (6-5), whose earned-run average is still a robust 5.07, retired 20 straight hitters going into the ninth and survived a leadoff walk in the final frame to pick up his first shutout since August 23, 2005.

The former National League Cy Young Award winner allowed just three hits and two walks while fanning seven for the Sox, winners of five straight and nine of 10 overall.

Carlos Quentin drove in Omar Vizquel for the game's only run.

J.D. Martin (0-3), in his fourth start since being recalled to the majors, was the hard luck loser, giving up one run on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts through six innings in Washington's fifth straight loss.
