The Redskins' lagging secondary will likely get a boost this weekend against the Rams. Safety Kareem Moore, who was the talk of training camp until suffering a knee injury, said he expects to be back in the lineup on Sunday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Today, Moore said that he'll likely be a bit rusty, but still expects to play.Via Ryan O'Halloran of Comcast SportsNet:

5. Moore on returning from knee injury: "I think I'll be a little rusty but I have to get in there and clean it off."

Moore did not say whether he would start, though as John Keim of the Washington Examiner notes, that's par for the course for a Mike Shanahan-coached team. I would expect Moore to be in the starting lineup come Sunday.

In the middle of a nice piece on how the Redskins will address their depth at the safety position, CSN drops an interesting nugget on how Kareem Moore hopes to have recovered from having his knee scoped in time for the season opener.

There are reports that he hopes to be back for the Redskins’ season opener against Dallas on Sept. 12. That would appear to be a highly optimistic goal as practice for that game starts in two weeks. Shanahan said that Moore will miss 4-6 weeks.

The most hopeful estimates report that Moore may have rehabbed enough to be ready for the Week 3 game against St. Louis. Hopefully, Moore will allow himself to fully recover, and not attempt to rush back for the opener in an attempt to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup.

As expected, Kareem Moore had his knee scoped this morning, two days after spraining it in the Redskins' loss to the Ravens on Saturday. Coach Mike Shanahan told assembled media that Moore is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

In the meantime, Shanahan also said that Chris Horton and Reed Doughty will compete for the starting free safety position. Newcomer Tyrone Carter will primarily be used as a strong safety.

Redskins' safety Kareem Moore was injured in Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore on a fake punt and according to Jason Reid, Moore will be out for six weeks.

Moore came into Saturday's game as the the team's starting free safety and at least one member of the Redskins' defense is none too pleased to see Moore on the shelf. According to Reid, Daniels tweeted that he was upset to lose a starter in preseason on a fake punt, but that tweet has now been removed from his account.

At the moment, veteran Reed Doughty is listed as the team's second-string free safety on the Redskins' depth chart, but the team could switch players between each safety position to put he best lineup on the field.
