Maryland's 42-23 victory over Virginia was a must in their quest to win the ACC Atlantic Division, but it didn't put them in first place just yet. Thanks to a miracle game-winning field goal by Dustin Keller, the Florida State Seminoles remain in first place in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 5-2 record. Maryland's win pushes them to 4-2, while North Carolina State also moved to 4-2 with a 38-3 win over Wake Forest. Clemson, meanwhile, is out of the race after losing to Florida State.

So that lessens the many possible ways the Atlantic Division could shake out. With two weeks left in the season, Patrick Stevens of D1Scourse broke down all the possibilities here. Here's how it will work:

If Maryland beats both Florida State and N.C. State, they will win the division with a 6-2 record. Florida State and N.C. State would be 5-3, or 4-4 if N.C. State loses to North Carolina next weekend.

If Maryland beats Florida State, but loses to N.C. State, the Wolfpack will win the division. If N.C. State also beats North Carolina next weekend, the Wolfpack will be 6-2, with Maryland and Florida State at 5-3. If N.C. State loses to North Carolina, but beats Maryland, they will still win the division because they will have head-to-head wins over both Florida State and Maryland.

If Florida State beats Maryland, they will win the division UNLESS N.C. State beats both North Carolina and Maryland. If that happens, N.C. State and Florida State will both be 6-2, but N.C. State owns the tiebreaker with its head-to-head win. If N.C. State only wins one of its final two games, they will be 5-3 and a game behind Florida State.

In a game that featured five lead changes, few would expect a final score this decisive.

The Maryland Terrapins pulled away late today in Charlottesville and escaped with a 42-23 win to keep their hopes of winning the ACC Championship alive. The final score was made possible by a 21-point fourth quarter performance.

The Terrapins were helped by Virginia's repeated mistakes on offense. The Cavaliers had 15 penalties for 140 yards, and gave up two interceptions on their final two drives of the game. Virginia quarterback Marc Verica had a solid performance in this game, but these two late errors may have cost his team the game. Maryland cornerback Eric Franklin picked off Verica with just under eight minutes left in the game, and linebacker Adrian Moten did the same on the very next possession. Moten's interception gave the Terrapins great field position with 4:32 remaining and helped set up Danny O'Brien's second touchdown pass of the night. Wide receiver Torrey Smith caught the final touchdown of the night for Maryland.

The Terrapins still control their own destiny in the ACC Atlantic Division. Wins in their final two games against Florida State and N.C. State would guarantee an appearance in the ACC Championship game. Both remaining games will be played in Byrd Stadium, where the Terrapins have not lost a game yet this season.

The fourth quarter is underway in Charlottesville and we seem to be headed towards a great finish.

This crucial ACC Atlantic Division matchup has now had five lead changes

After two punts to start the second half, the Cavaliers recaptured the lead by driving the ball 80-yards on 11 plays, using almost five minutes of game time. Virginia kicker Robert Randolph put his team in the lead by converting a 37-yard field goal attempt.

It didn't take long for the Terrapins to come back though. The team's running game hasn't been doing well in most parts of the field, but it has been on-point inside the 20-yard line throughout the entire game. Maryland turned to D.J. Adams on the first two plays of the fourth quarter and he punched the ball in once again behind the left side of the offensive line. Adams had three touchdowns on the season before today. He's now matched that total in one game.

After two UVA penalties that backed the Cavaliers up to their own 5-yard line on the ensuing possession, Maryland started with great field position and was able to emerge with its biggest lead of the game. This time it was Danny O'Brien's 2-yard pass to Da'Rel Scott for the score.

This game is going to come down to who wants it more. The Terrapins, who could still win the ACC? Or the Cavaliers on their senior night?

The Cavaliers have begun to expose Maryland's defense. The home team has scored on each of their final three drives of the first half to cut Maryland's lead to 21-20.

Following a Maryland three-and-out, Virginia was left with just 1:01 left on the clock before halftime. That's all they needed to drive the ball 37-yards and set up a field goal to allow them to trail by just one point. The Terrapins thought they had managed to push the Cavaliers out of field goal range thanks to a holding penalty in the backfield on the second-to-last play of the half. The penalty pushed the ball back to the 35-yard line. That wasn't enough to stop Cavaliers kicker Chris Hinkebein. The junior nailed a 52-yarder.

The Cavaliers had 16 first downs in the first half to Maryland's six. Despite those disappointing numbers, Danny O'Brien continues to do well for the Terrapins. He had 183 passing yards in the first half.

While the Terrapins have been using the long ball to set up their two most recent touchdowns, Virginia has been more content to use a more methodical style of play.

The Cavaliers needed only six plays to drive the ball 71 yards for a touchdown.

Marc Verica and Keith Payne were the main stars of the drive, as Viriginia only saw a second down once on the entire drive. Payne gained 18-yards on the ground and Verica gained 53-yards through the air, including a 1-yard touchdown pass to cut Maryland's lead to four points. Verica connected with Jeremiah Mathis, who is listed as a defensive end, for the team's third score of the game.

Freshman quarterback Danny O'Brien continues to be the difference for the Terrapins today.

While the Cavaliers have relied mostly on their special teams and trick plays to stay in the ballgame, Maryland has gotten it down in more of a traditional way: through the air, and the short running game.

Danny O'Brien connected with Quintin McCree on a 55-yard pass. McCree got behind the Virginia defense and used his speed to take the ball inside Virginia's 21-yard line.

The drive didn't stop there. Maryland is in contention for the ACC Championship, and the team doesn't seem willing to settle for field goals. On fourth-and-one from Virginia's 12-yard line, the Terrapins initially sent in their field goal unit. Ralph Friedgen called a timeout though and, upon further consideration, put the ball into running back D.J. Adams' hands. Adams rushed up the middle for the first down, and three plays later, when the Terrapins found themselves with a fourth down decision again, Adams once again powered past the right side of the line and into the end zone.

It looked like Virginia had control of this football game against Maryland. They shocked the Terps with a 16-yard fake field goal touchdown to take a 10-7 lead. But the Terps have responded with two huge plays to take a 14-10 lead.

Facing third down deep in their own territory, quarterback Danny O'Brien lofted a deep pass towards Torrey Smith once again. Smith, again, caught it, this time with two men on him, and cut back across the field to run inside the 10-yard line for a 62-yard gain. On the next play, after a five-yard penalty, O'Brien ran it in himself from 12 yards out to give Maryland the lead.

Virginia had a nice drive going prior to this one, but two false start penalties forced them to punt to Maryland. It looked like Maryland fumbled the punt, but luckily for the Terps, they were able to recover. They got two first downs before Smith's big catch.

It did not take very long for the Maryland Terrapins to respond to Virginia's field goal. The Terps got down the field quickly, using a deep pass and a couple penalties to get the ball to the six-yard line. From there, running back D.J. Adams got in from six yards out to give Maryland a 7-3 lead.

The Terps' drive began with a pass interference penalty on a pass to wide receiver Adrian Canon. Two plays later, quarterback Danny O'Brien found Torrey Smith for a 35-yard pass on third down to extend the drive. On third and nine, Ronnie Tyler caught an 11-yard short pass for a first down, and the Cavaliers committed a roughing the passer penalty to get to the six-yard line. That set up Adams' touchdown run.

The Terps look like they will try to test Virginia deep. It worked on the long pass to Smith, and it worked in drawing the penalty on Canon to start the drive. They also converted two third downs on the drive, which bodes well for them going forward.
