It looked like the Washington Wizards were poised to win a stunning game over the mighty Miami Heat. They led 93-89 with only 18 seconds left to play in the game. But then, disaster struck, and they came away emptyhanded.

First, Andray Blatche fouled Chris Bosh on a three-point attempt. After Bosh hit two of three free-throws, the Wizards tried to inbound the ball, but Blatche threw it away from Nick Young and James Jones stole it. Jones was immediately fouled, and sank two free throws to tie the game. On the ensuing Wizards inbounds play, Kirk Hinrich was fouled, but his just one of two free throws. Miami took the ball out of the basket, and Dwyane Wade raced upcourt to draw the foul, converting on both free throws for the final margin.

The Wizards had one last chance with seven seconds left. Hinrich dribbled all the way to the rim and went up against Wade and Chris Bosh. Somehow, neither player fouled him, and Hinrich's layup didn't even hit the rim. Wade threw the ball in the air for a 95-94 win.

The loss spoiled a breakout performance for Nick Young, starting for the traded Gilbert Arenas. Young had 30 points in the game, going shot-for-shot with LeBron James and Wade. Blatche added 20 for the Wizards despite the boneheaded plays down the stretch. James led Miami with 32, while Wade and Bosh added 20 apiece.

With the Miami Heat rolling into town on an 11-game winning streak, things didn't look good for the shorthanded Washington Wizards. Without John Wall, and with Gilbert Arenas now in Orlando after Saturday's trade (link Arenas stream), the Wizards didn't look like much of a threat. But that's why they play the games.

Riding a spirited first quarter, the Wizards lead the Heat 47-46 at halftime. The Wizards led for most of the way, but the Heat rallied to make it a one-point game at halftime. Nick Young, starting his first game of the season in Arenas' place, had it going early and finished with 13 points in the half. Kirk Hinrich, the other starting backcourt player, added 10 points, and Andray Blatche, who has missed five of the last six games with a hip injury, added 10 points.

Overall, the Wizards forced 10 Miami turnovers, leading to several fast break points. LeBron James has 12 points to lead the Heat. Dwyane Wade added nine points, and Mario Chalmers had eight points off the bench.

Tonight also marks the return of Josh Howard to the Wizards' lineup. Howard had five points in 10 minutes off the bench and took his turn guarding James at different points. He's showing no ill effects of his knee injury that has kept him out of action since last February.

Amid all the craziness with the news that Gilbert Arenas has been traded to the Orlando Magic for Rashard Lewis, the Washington Wizards actually have a game tonight. Making matters worse, it's against LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat.

The Wizards will take on the Heat tonight at the Verizon Center. It's a difficult game under normal circumstances, but it's particularly tough tonight. The Wizards will be without John Wall due to injury and, of course, won't have Arenas. Kirk Hinrich and Nick Young will start in the backcourt, with Al Thornton, Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee up front. Josh Howard will make his season debut tonight, but will come off the bench.

The Heat have won 11 games in a row after a slow start, including a 113-91 beatdown of the surging New York Knicks last night in New York. They seemed to have cured the issues that plagued them early in the year, and despite being on the second game of a back-to-back, they are clearly the favorites tonight.
