In the first NBA meeting between star point guards John Wall and Chris Paul, the 2006 Rookie of the Year prevailed in the end.

Wall and the Wizards got off to a hot start. The rookie wasn't phased by two early foul calls as he earned five points and four assists in the first six minutes. Wall looked quick, beating Paul on a left-handed jam. Wall finished with 12 points and 10 assists, just off the pace of Paul's 13 points and 11 assists.

The Wizards had a 13 point lead midway through the second quarter, but the home team fell apart late in the half, giving up a 12-4 run for the Hornets. The Wizards never recovered, scoring only 15 points in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth.

Nick Young continues to be productive for the Wizards as the starting shooting guard since the departure of Gilbert Arenas. Young led all scorers with 24 points in the losing effort. Trevor Ariza had 22 points and one gigantic second half dunk for the Hornets to lead the team to victory.

The headline tonight is that New Orleans Hornets star point guard Chris Paul will be matched up against rookie John Wall for the first time. The 2006 Rookie of the Year is averaging 16.7 points and 9.8 assists per game this season, and he's been among the leaders for the Hornets in their 19-14 start to the year.

The Washington Wizards are coming off two straight games against the Indiana Pacers. As could have expected, the Wizards won at home and lost last night on the road. With a loss tonight, the Wizards would fall back into the cellar of the Eastern Conference. They are currently a half game ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers with a record of 8-23.

Kirk Hinrich and Josh Howard will both be out for the Wizards tonight.

SB Nation's Wizards blog Bullets Forever warns that as exciting as the Wall vs. Paul matchup could be, focusing on that strategy might not be in the Wizards' best interest.

So we can expect a lot of John Wall tonight. In his pregame address, Saunders stressed that Wall needed to concentrate on staying out of foul trouble and not engaging in a one on one duel with Chris Paul. Obviously, this is easier said than done. With both Hinrich and Howard out for tonight's contest, expect Saunders to go early and often to the end of his bench.
