The Georgetown Hoyas are good. But tonight Kemba Walker was better.

The star point guard for the Connecticut Huskies had 31 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds in a dominating performance in this important Big East matchup between two of the top http://www.sbnation.com/admin/entries/new_node/1761949?community_id=30313 teams in the nation. 21 of Walker's points came in the second half as he turned it on and took over. There wasn't a single player wearing dark blue who could stop Walker when he drove to the basket. Walker shot over 56% from the field and added four free throws.

The Huskies took the lead early in the second half and never looked back, closing out Georgetown with a final score of 78-70 and ending the team's winning streak at eight-games.

The Hoyas did well to keep pace with Walker, but fell short in the end. Chris Wright led the team with 19 points, making five of his nine three-point attempts. Jason Clark, Austin Freeman, and Hollis Thompson all scored in double-figures for the Hoyas, but it wasn't enough.

Jamal Coombs-McDaniel added 23 points and six rebounds for UCONN on an impressive 8-11 shooting.

Two of the top 12 teams in the nation with two of the top players in the nation are off to a great start in Big East action tonight.

The Georgetown Hoyas took a lead early in the contest with some hard work inside the paint, but the Connecticut Huskies came back late in the first half to bring their home fans at the XL Center to their feet after a Kemba Walker layup cut the Hoyas' lead to one point. After Jeremy Lamb and Chris Wright traded three-pointers, the whistle blew with Georgetown on top 37-36 at the end of the first 20 minutes.

Hoyas star Austin Freeman is off to a decent start with six points in the first half. Georgetown is 10-1 this season when Freeman scores 20 points or more, so they'll be looking for him to step up in the second half. Jason Clark is the leading scorer for the Hoyas at the break with 11 points.

Connecticut's own respective Player of the Year candidate Walker has made a bigger impact than Freeman so far. He has 10 points and six of his team's nine assists.

The No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas, winners of eight in a row, face yet another tough road test. After vanquishing fellow top teams Villanova and Syracuse on the road earlier in the streak, the Hoyas must now travel to Hartford to face Kemba Walker and No. 13 Connecticut. The game is at 7 p.m. on MASN.

The Hoyas have been on a roll recently, thanks to improved offense and a resurgent Austin Freeman. The Huskies, meanwhile, started the season on a roll, but have lost three of their last five, including home losses to Louisville and Syracuse. Still, they are always difficult to top at home, so Georgetown will need to bring it tonight to extend its streak.

This is a big game for the Huskies if they want to remain in contention for a bye to the Big East tournament quarterfinals. They are just 7-5 in the Big East, and trail the Hoyas by a game and a half for third place. The Hoyas, meanwhile, are one game behind second-place Notre Dame, so this is also a big game for them.
