Last month Washington Nationals pitcher Livan Hernandez did a Spanish interview with Omar Claro of Spanish-language Mega TV and had these words to say about the federal probe that is investigating him for possibly having contact and abiding a known drug trafficker:

"When something bad happens, like now, there are no facts, only things that come from people talking, and now Livan is the problem," Mr. Hernandez said in remarks translated from Spanish. "Everyone who knows me knows I’m not like that.

Unfortunately Hernandez is not known that well by a lot of people, heck, everyone questions the age of the pitcher nicknamed "Mr. National" by some, but if any of the information recently coming out is true then some "bad happenings" will be in Hernandez's future.

The Washington Times is printing a story that has more details (a lot more detail) in the relationship between Hernandez and the Puerto Rican drug trafficker Angel Ayala-Vazquez aka "El Buster." Research and testimony reveals that Hernandez bought several cars for Vazquez, but kept the cars in his own name. It was the same for a warehouse purchased by Hernandez in 2006 or 2007 that housed a gym, recording studio, barber shop and furniture that was supposedly used as a "clubhouse" for Vazquez and his associates. Hernandez even met Vazquez's associates in Florida and had a three day stay at the hotel Buena Vista Palace at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. with them to purchase the cars that was in Hernandez's name: cars paid for by drug money.

So far Hernandez has refused any comments to Nationals or American media about the situation.

More details are emerging about a federal investigation into Nationals' pitcher Livan Hernandez for his alleged interaction with drug trafficker Angel Ayala Vázquez. A federal law enforcement source tells the Washington Times that Hernandez is being investigated for being a "straw buyer," which means he purchased things in his name or someone else's name for Vázquez. In this case, Hernandez allegedly purchased luxury cars and property.

It remains unclear whether Hernandez will be charged criminally. A special counsel to the U.S. attorney told Comak that was "getting ahead of ourselves" when asked. The Nationals have said they are monitoring the situation, while Hernandez has declined to comment thus far.

Washington Nationals starter Livan Hernandez is under investigation for allegedly money laundering for a convicted drug trafficker. While details are still coming out, CSN Washington's Mark Zuckerman tweeted that the Nationals' organization is aware of what is going on and are keeping close watch on how the trial of drug trafficker Angel Manuel Ayala plays out:

There is still no official word from Hernandez himself.

Ayala implicated Hernandez saying he was laundering money for Ayala while Ayala gave him a warehouse with several brands of expensive luxury cars. No official charges have been brought against Hernandez as of yet, Jaqueline Novas, special counsel to the U.S. Attorney in San Juan, Puerto Rico, told Amanda Comak of the Washington Times.

"We’re looking into people who assisted with money laundering," Novas told The Washington Times on Wednesday. "(Hernandez’s) name came up during the trial several times."

No doubt MLB and the Nationals' organization will be monitoring the outcome very closely and will act swiftly and appropriately if needed when more concrete information is known.

Several reports are indicating that Washington Nationals starting pitcher Livan Hernandez has been named in a Federal Probe for laundering money for convicted drug trafficker Angel Ayala Vázquez, aka "El Buster." The original source was a Spanish website and no official word has been handed down from MLB or the Nationals.

The reports state that Hernandez's name was attached to a warehouse and a collection of exotic cars like Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Porsches that were once in Vázquez's possession. Hernandez could be facing money laundering and bank fraud charges. Here is an English translation of Spanish article:

DEA Special Agent Pedro Janer added that "we are in constant communication with and are receiving the cooperation of Major League Baseball, which has a great relationship with federal agencies. We are going to explore all the possible angles so that no person involved with this organization evades justice".

When asked by the press if Liván Hernández could face criminal charges, U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodríguez replied that "time will tell. The answer is yes, that is correct."

Not a whole lot of details have come out yet, including from Hernandez himself. Hernandez, considered to be the ace of the Nationals rotation is set to pitch Thursday against the New York Mets at Nationals Park.
