The Washington Nationals for once led for most of Tuesday night's game, but as everyone knows it isn't how you begin the game it is how you finish and the Nationals finished in heartbreaking fashion as the Milwaukee Brewers snuck up on the Nationals and eventually won the game 7-6 in later innings.

The Nationals had a 6-3 in the seventh, but reliever Tyler Clippard gave up a two-run home run to Rickie Weeks to put the Brewers within one. Nationals reliever Henry Rodriguez came in for the eighth-inning to hold Milwaukee off, but he eventually surrendered a two-run single to Jonathan Lucroy which put the Brewers up for good. Nationals first baseman Michael Morse had the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth, but he harmlessly flied out to end the game. Morse had a third-inning grand slam already in the game, the first of his career.

Usually it is the Nationals offense that is the guilty party in their recent string of four straight losses, but Tuesday night's culprit was the pitching. Rarely does everything seem to gel and come together for the Nats.

The Nationals are now 1-6 on the current road trip and hold a 21-27 record with a firm hold on the cellar of the NL East.

After starter Livan Hernandez gave up a first-inning two-run home run to the Milwaukee Brewers Corey Hart (his fourth of this series) it already looked like curtains for Washington. However, first baseman Michael Morse has changed the drapes and the direction of Tuesday night's game in the third-inning with one swing of his bat to give the Nats a 5-1 lead over the Brew Crew in the third-inning.

In the third-inning, after shortstop Ian Desmond singled to start off the inning, both right fielder Jayson Werth and catcher Wilson Ramos were able to draw walks off pitcher Chris Narveson. To the plate comes Morse who then teed off on a 4-seam fastball in the third pitch of the at-bat and sent the ball, and the Nationals spirits, soaring into the air and over the left field wall for his first career Grand Slam.

The other run for the Nationals came off the bat of Hernandez who helped his own cause by hitting an RBI single in the second-inning.

There's no doubt about it: the Washington Nationals are in a rut. The Nationals lost their fourth straight and fifth in the last six games on Monday night, getting blown out, 11-3, by the Milwaukee Brewers. Washington looks to bounce back on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series at Miller Park, and will send Livan Hernandez to the mound looking to stop the bleeding.

Hernandez fell to 3-6 last week when he was the hard-luck loser in Thursday's 1-0 loss to the New York Mets. On Tuesday, he will square off against Chris Narveson, who also was the victim of a 1-0 loss in his last start, though he didn't get the decision.

Washington will make a lineup change, playing Brian Bixler in left field instead of Laynce Nix. The full lineup is as follows.

Roger Bernadina (CF)
