The Washington Nationals dropped their fifth straight game and seventh of their last eight on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers. Afterwards, Jayson Werth, the $126 million man who is used to winning or competing for World Series crowns, had a thinly-veiled message to his team. Via Ben Goessling of MASNSports.com.
↵
↵
↵↵"I've got some ideas, obviously, and some thoughts, none I really want to share with the world," Werth said. "But I think it's pretty obvious what's going on right here. ... I'm not going to get into it right now. It is what it is. It's unfortunate. We're a way better ballclub."
↵
↵
Awww, c'mon Jayson. Can't spill the beans? With how badly the Nationals are struggling anyway, does it really matter if you hurt anyone's feelings? WE WANT DRAMA!
↵
In all seriousness, unless Werth has a magical plan to turn Michael Morse, Laynce Nix (who is actually playing well) and Jerry Hairston into functional Major League hitters, I'm not sure what he can do.

The Washington Nationals are officially in a major slump. The Nationals fell, 6-4, to the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series, and have now lost five in a row and seven of their last eight games. Washington falls to 21-28 with the loss, while Milwaukee moves to 27-23.

Zack Greinke did just enough to get his third win of the season for Milwaukee, helping his own cause by breaking a 3-3 deadlock with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Greinke ultimately allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out 10. Jason Marquis took the loss to fall to 5-2 on the season for Washington, surrendering four runs on five hits in six innings.

Milwaukee jumped ahead 3-0, but the Nationals tied it on a three-run home run by Michael Morse in the fourth inning. But then Greinke's home run gave the Brewers the lead for good, and the Brewers tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Washington scored in the eighth to pull to within 5-4, but the Brewers pushed ahead 6-4, then retired the Nationals in order in the top of the ninth inning.

The Milwaukee Brewers hold a 4-3 lead on the Washington Nationals thanks to pitcher Zack Greinke. No, not necessarily with his arm, but rather, with his bat. Greinke hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 deadlock, his first of the season.

Milwaukee had taken an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and one in the bottom of the third. Prince Fielder lined a one-out double past center fielder Roger Bernadina in the first inning to score Corey Hart and Ryan Braun, then hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to send Rickie Weeks home. But the Nationals tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Michael Morse, mired in a slump for most of the year, smacked his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot to bring home Jayson Werth and Laynce Nix.

Greinke and Nationals started Jason Marquis remain in the game in the middle of the sixth inning.

The Washington Nationals lost Tuesday night's game to the Milwaukee Brewers in disappointing fashion, blowing a 6-2 lead thanks to a two-run single in the eighth inning. It was their fourth loss in a row and sixth in the past seven games. On Wednesday, they will try to salvage one game in the series in an afternoon tilt at Miller Park.

In a touch of irony, the Nationals will be going up against Zack Greinke. You may remember how the Nationals and Kansas City Royals agreed to a trade that would have sent the Brewers' ace to Washington D.C., but Greinke used his no-trade clause to veto the trade because he felt the Nationals weren't close to contending. Soon thereafter, Greinke approved a trade to the Brewers. He spent the first month of the season injured and is slowly working his way back towards stardom.

Jason Marquis will oppose Greinke on the mound, as he looks to bounce back from a strange outing last Friday. Marquis was taken out of the game against the Orioles after four innings, which led to a verbal confrontation between him and Jim Riggleman.

Laynce Nix will return to the Nationals' lineup after getting the night off on Tuesday, while Ivan Rodriguez will start for Wilson Ramos. Here is the complete lineup.
