With the score 7-6, two men on and one out, New York Mets closer Bobby Parnell intentionally walked Washington Nationals right fielder Roger Bernadina to load the bases. The next batter he would face would be third baseman Ryan Zimmerman or as Natstown likes to call him: Mr. Walk-Off.

What was Parnell thinking?

Ryan Zimmerman blooped a broken bat two-run walk-off single down the right field line to give the Nationals a 8-7 win over the NL East rival Mets. Zimmerman finished the night 2-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts. The Nationals defended home turf and battled back for the win after the Mets roared back to take a 7-6 lead after the Nats lead the game early 5-0.

Starter Tom Milone made his MLB debut and it will be one to remember. Milone held the Mets hitless for the first two innings of his Major League career and in the second inning, on the first pitch he saw of his Major League career from Mets pitcher Dillon Gee, Milone clocked a 90 mph fastball over the right field wall into the jumping and cheering Nationals bullpen for a three-run home run. Milone finished the night pitching 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits. He gave up no walks and struck out two. He threw 74 pitches, 51 for strikes.

The Nationals move to 64-73 on the season.

Washington Nationals fans have been watching rookie pitcher Tom Milone have a fairy tale debut Saturday night, but they are also seeing that not all fairy tales might not have happy endings. Milone wowed the crowd at Nationals Park for three innings before the New York Mets were able to put up a crooked number in the fourth and the Nats are clinging to a 5-4 lead in the fifth.

Milone started off the game strong. The Mets could record no hits in Milone's first two Major League innings and in the bottom of the second, Milone took the first pitch he saw in a Major League game from Dillon Gee and put it into the Nationals bullpen for a three-run jack to give the Nationals a 5-0 lead. Ian Desmond hit a lead off home run in the first and Jesus Flores scored a RBI double in the second.

Milone broke down in the fourth however. He gave up a two-RBI single to Angel Pagan and a two-run home run to Nick Evans. Milone made it into the fifth inning, but was quickly pulled by manager Davey Johnson for Tom Gorzelanny which eliminated Milone from possibly picking up the win if the Nationals can hold on. Milone's final line was 4.1 innings of six hit ball. He gave up four runs, issued no walks and struck out two.

Like many ballplayers, Washington Nationals pitcher Tom Milone has been dreaming about his MLB debut all his life. He has probably imagined it time and time again on how that first night on a big league mound might play out. He probably never imagined it would be like it has been on Saturday night. His first big league batter, Jose Reyes, he got out. His first two innings in the Majors, he gave up no hits. His first swing of the bat in the Majors-- a three-run home run into the Nationals bullpen.

You just can't make this stuff up. The Nationals bullpen, the dugout, all of Nationals Park go into a complete frenzy.

New York Mets pitcher (now trivia question) Dillon Gee served up a first pitch 90 mph fastball to Milone who absolutely obliterated it into the Nats bullpen to help the Nationals take a 5-0 lead over the Mets. The team forced Milone to make a curtain call and the fans at Nationals Park gave him a standing ovation. This is the stuff dreams are made of.

Milone was 12-6 with a 3.22 ERA at Triple-A Syracuse and is the second National to make his MLB in little over a week.

The Washington Nationals and New York Mets are out of any talks for playoff contention in 2011, but that doesn't mean Saturday night's game at Nationals Park won't be interesting. For the second time in little over a week a Nationals player will be making his MLB debut. This time around it is pitcher Tom Milone (0-0 0.00 ERA).

Milone, the Nationals' 10th-round Draft pick in 2008, was 12-6 with a 3.22 ERA in 24 starts while striking out 155 in 148 1/3 innings for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs. He has slowly started to make waves moving up the the Nationals prospect chart and it has all accumulated into his Saturday debut. Milone's first major league opponent will be New York's Dillon Gee (12-5 4.24 ERA).

Second baseman Danny Espinosa returns to the line up Saturday after a day off and Jayson Werth returns to the center field spot as Roger Bernadina mans right field.

The Nationals made some other personnel moves on Saturday. Catcher Ivan Rodriguez was reinstated from the DL while first baseman Adam LaRoche was transferred to the 60-Day DL.

First pitch is 7:05 P.M.
