On Thursday the Washington Nationals racked up 10 runs against the New York Mets. On Friday they put up zero against the Florida Marlins in a 3-0 shutout loss which snapped their wining streak at five games.

It was a highly disappointing night for the Navy Yard Boys. The line up produced no offense only tallying five hits off the Marlins Javier Vasquez who pitched a complete game shutout. Starting pitcher John Lannan went six innings giving up three runs on eight hits. Lannan issued three walks (all early in the game and the beginning of his troubles) and struck out only one. After giving up the game's three runs in two innings, Lannan settled and was able to blank the Fish for three innings before being relieved.

The offense left him hanging however and Lannan failed to get his 10th win of the season.

The Nationals are now 71-78 on the season.

A baseball fan on Twitter asked, "Which of these teams came off a four game sweep and which one game off a doubleheader loss?" Indeed, it would be hard to tell watching Friday's game between the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals. The Nationals came off a four game sweep of the New York Mets, but the trail the Marlins, losers of a doubleheader, 3-0.

Nationals starter John Lannan was looking for his 10th win of the season, but that is in jeopardy if the offense can't produce some runs. Lannan has gone six innings giving up three runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out only one. It looked like Lannan would have another short night as he ran into trouble in the second and third innings. Florida's John Buck hit a RBI single in the second and Mike Stanton hit a RBI double in the third while Gaby Sanchez added an RBI to his tally. However, Lannan recovered and sent the Marlins down for the next three innings.

Going into the seventh the Nationals have only mustered three hits.

Lannan will be without Jayson Werth and Michael Morse who have been given the night off.

When the Washington Nationals return to Nationals Park on Friday night to face the Florida Marlins, starter John Lannan will have two goals: get the Nationals their sixth straight win and firm up their hold on third place in the NL East and get his 10th win of the season.

For Lannan (9-12, 3.65 ERA), his tenth win has been elusive. He could have achieved double digits wins in 2011 on Sept. 10th against the Houston Astros, but instead he had one the worst and shortest outings of his career. He merely made it to 2 1/3 innings while giving up six runs, four earned. The outing broke a six-game streak of Lannan not allowing more than three runs during a game. The Nationals southpaw is a lot better than his last start so it would be safe to say chances are the Nats will get a much better performance out of him Friday.

Outfielders Jayson Werth and Michael Morse have been given the night off so Laynce Nix and Roger Bernadina will be filing in against Javier Vazquez (10-11, 4.13 ERA) and the Fish. First pitch is 7:05 P.M.
