No. 21 Virgina Tech 38, Miami 35-

The Virginia Tech Hokies sneaked by Miami Saturday afternoon in a classic ACC shootout in Blacksburg. One week after their offense looked anemic against Clemson, managing just over 250 yards of and scoring only three points, the Hokies rebounded, putting up 38 points and racking up 482 yards en route to a crucial victory to their chances of winning the ACC Coastal Division.

The difference was the Hokies first-year starting quarterback Logan Thomas. Thomas threw more touchdowns (three) than incompletions (two). He also rushed for two touchdowns, including the decisive score to put the Hokies up 38-35 with just under a minute remaining.

It was truly a story of two halves, as the Hokies came out of the gates dominating the Hurricanes to the tune of 14-0 in just over a quarter of play. As the Hokies drove for a third score, Thomas fumbled a snap in the red zone and Miami scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive after a long pass on third down, originally called incomplete, was erroneously overturned.

In the second half, the Hurricanes dominated the Hokies defense, gouging them with heavy doses of Lamar Miller, trick plays and a controversial unsportsmanlike conduct penalty kept another Hurricane scoring drive alive. Miami was able to tally 519 yards, more than the Hokies, but didn't have an answer for Thomas. With the win, the Hokies move to 5-1 (1-1) and the Hurricanes move to 2-3 (0-2). It is worth noting that no ACC team has ever started 0-2 in conference play and ended up the ACC champion.
No. 8 Clemson 36, Boston College 14-

The Clemson Tigers continued to run over their competition by dispatching the Boston College Eagles Saturday afternoon. The Eagles played one of their better games of the year, but there was an obvious gap in talent. The biggest news came in the third quarter when Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd left the game with an apparent hip injury.

The Tigers were able to carry on without him however, extending their lead and riding running back Andre Ellington and his 117 yards to the win.
Clemson Tigers quarterback Tajh Boyd is apparently questionable for next week's game against the Maryland Terrapins after an MRI revealed no damage to his hip and came back negative. Boyd was carted off the field Saturday afternoon in the third quarter against Boston College with the apparent hip injury.

The Tigers went on to win 36-14, but Boyd was unable to return to the game. According to sources inside the Clemson locker room, Boyd was walking around the locker room much better after his MRI. If he is unable to go against Maryland, the Tigers have said that the starter would be Cole Stoudt, a true freshman who has only seen action in two games; in relief of Boyd against Boston College and in the season opener against Troy. He is 7-11 for 44 yards for the season. This would be a big drop-off for the Tigers as Boyd has been remarkable and is a Heisman Trophy contender.

Florida State began the 2011 season as a top-five team. Now, they will likely be out of the next batch of NCAA football rankings entirely. The Seminoles tried to rally, but fell short, losing 35-30 to Wake Forest. Here are all the college football scores involving ACC teams early on this Saturday.

Wake Forest 35, No. 23 Florida State 30: The Demon Deacons controlled the entire game and took a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter with a touchdown catch by Terence Davis. Florida State cut the lead down to three with a minute left, but Wake Forest recovered the onside kick and got the win. For more on the Demon Deacons, visit Blogger So Dear. For more on Florida State, visit Tomahawk Nation.

North Carolina 14, Louisville 7: An ugly game ended in a predictably ugly score.
Four ACC games officially on the books for Saturday, with North Carolina and North Carolina State playing non-conference contests. When and where to watch all the Atlantic Coast Conference teams in action:

Maryland at No. 13 Georgia Tech: The Terrapins must find a way to slow down the Yellow Jacket's top ranked rushing attack if they are to have any chance in this game. Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien will need to put points on the board to keep up with Georgia Tech's prolific ground game (378.2 yards rushing per game, 24 touchdowns). Rob Stone and Danny Kanell have the call at noon on ESPNU. Visit Testudo Times for all your Terrapins news. For more on Georgia Tech, visit From the Rumble Seat and SB Nation Atlanta.

Louisville at North Carolina: The last time these two teams met, in 2005, Louisville won 69-14. I think today might be a tad different. With a win, the Tar Heels would open 4-0 at home for the first time since 1997. The Bobs will be in the broadcast booth on ESPN2, Bob Wischusen and Bob Davie. For more on North Carolina, visit Carolina March. Louisville fans, be sure to visit Card Chronicle.

No. 23 Florida State at Wake Forest: If you like passes and aerial attacks, this game is for you. Whether E.J. Manuel or Clint Trickett is under center for the Seminoles, they will toss it around. Wake Forest quarterback Tanner Price has completed 63 percent of his passes on the year for 1,119 yards and seven touchdowns against just two interceptions. Steve Martin, Dave Archer, Scott Pryzwansky with the call at 12:30 P.M. on the ACC Network. For more on the Demon Deacons, visit Blogger So Dear. For more on Florida State, visit Tomahawk Nation.

Boston College at No. 8 Clemson: With last week's 23-3 defeat of Virginia Tech, Clemson became the first ACC team ever to win three straight games against teams ranked in the Top 25 (Auburn and Florida State were the other victims). Quarterback Tajh Boyd leads a potent Tigers offensive attack, ranked second in the conference and 20th nationally. Rich Waltz, Keith Jones, Jenn Hildreth are your broadcast team, 3:00 P.M. on the ACC Network. For more on Boston College, visit BC Interruption and SB Nation Boston. For more on the game, Clemson fans should visit Shakin' The Southland.

Central Michigan at North Carolina State: The Wolfpack, losers of two straight, hope a home win over the Chippewas can right the ship before they end their season with a bye and six straight conference games. Central Michigan will be no pushover, however. The Chippewas scored 48 points last week in a seven point win over Northern Illinois. For more on the Wolfpack, visit Backing the Pack.

Miami at No. 21 Virginia Tech: The Hokies look to rebound after their 23-3 drubbing at the hands of Clemson in their conference opener. Miami beat up on cupcake Bethune-Cookman last week, and now must travel to Blacksburg in search of their first ACC win. The Hurricanes have dropped two straight and six of eight against Virginia Tech. Mike Patrick and Craig James are your broadcast team, 3:30 P.M., ABC/ESPN. For more on Miami, visit 7th Floor Blog. For more on the Hokies, visit Gobbler Country.

Here are the conference games on tap for the weekend:

Maryland at No. 13 Georgia Tech

Miami at No. 21 Virginia Tech

No. 23 Florida State at Wake Forest

Boston College at No. 8 Clemson

The surprise Clemson Tigers should have no trouble taking care of business at home against the lowly Eagles of Boston College. I think we can all agree on that. More interesting will be the other three matchups. Wake Forest looks to remain unbeaten in conference play when they host Florida State. The Seminoles look to rebound from consecutive losses against top-tier opponents (OU, Clemson) before their season gets away from them.

Maryland and Georgia Tech will duke it out in Atlanta, with the winner remaining undefeated in ACC play. The Terps will have their hands full trying to slow down the triple-option rushing attack of the Yellow Jackets on defense, and then try to exploit the loss of two key Georgia Tech defenders offensively.

Finally, the mid-afternoon matchup in Blacksburg between 21st ranked Virginia Tech and the Miami Hurricanes pits two teams who can ill afford another conference loss. Both teams have already dropped a game in ACC play, so expect both teams to compete as if their season were on the line Saturday afternoon.
