ECU was driving with the football at the end of the third quarter and scored at the very beginning of the fourth quarter to take a 31-21 lead on a Reggie Bullock 13-yard touchdown run.

Navy got the football back and scored quickly as back up quarterback Trey Miller began to settle into the offense. Miller hit Brandon Turner on a 59-yard pass for the touchdown to pull back within one score of ECU. 31-28. After going three and out on his first couple of drives in the game, Miller led the Midshipmen on consecutive touchdown drives.

Navy forced ECU on a three and out to get the football back. Miller once again had the Midshipmen marching down the football field and once again scored on a long touchdown pass. Miller hit Matt Aiken for 37 yards and the touchdown to take the lead over ECU 35-31.

ECU got the football back however and went on a time killing 15 play, 77-yard drive to take back the lead. ECU slowly marched down the field and scored on another Reggie Bullock rushing touchdown from 3 yards out to take a 38-35 lead.

Navy attempted to mount a drive to tie the football game. The Midshipman were able to drive down to field goal range, but Jon Teague missed the potential game tying 42-yard field goal as Navy fell for the fifth consecutive week.

After trailing at halftime 17-7 to ECU, but Navy made sure to cut into that lead as quick as possible. Ben Ryan returned the kickoff to open the second half 90 yards for a touchdown, putting Navy right back into the game 17-14.

In the first half, ECU quarterback Dominque Davis set two records for pass completions.

Davis completed his first 26 passes against Navy on Saturday, breaking the single-game record of 23 set by Tee Martin of Tennessee in 1998 and tied by Aaron Rodgers of California in 2004.

Davis however missed on his very first pass of the second half. ECU was still able to march right down the field on their first drive and answer Navy's score. ECU went 12 plays for 69 yards to cap the scoring drive off with Reggie Bullock rushing the ball in from 1 yard out to put ECU up 24-14.

Navy's next drive with back up quarterback Trey Miller went for negative yards on a three and out. Navy forced ECU on their first three and out of the game on their next drive however, to get the ball back. Navy went on a patented 13-play drive that ate up five minutes off the clock. Alexander Teich punched the ball in from the 1-yard line to put the game back within reach, 24-21.

Navy's season has gotten away pretty quickly, and this may be the icing on the cake for their downfall. (We'll explain why we use the word "may" later). The Midshipmen are playing against East Carolina, and they cannot do anything to prevent ECU quarterback Dominique Davis to throw an incompletion. Davis completed the first 26 passes he threw in the game, setting a single-game record. Via the AP:

East Carolina quarterback Dominique Davis has set two NCAA records for successive pass completions.

Davis completed his first 26 passes against Navy on Saturday, breaking the single-game record of 23 set by Tee Martin of Tennessee in 1998 and tied by Aaron Rodgers of California in 2004.

That's also 36 pass completions in a row for Davis dating back to ECU's last game, which is also a record.

Somehow, though, Navy is only down by three points after running the second-half kickoff back for a touchdown. (See why we used the word "may?"). Could the Midshipmen really win despite allowing this record to happen?

After a scoreless first quarter that saw East Carolina kicker Michael Barbour miss two field goals, Navy opened the second quarter continuing their drive. Lead by a 21-yard Matt Aiken rush, the Midshipmen marched down the field going 80 yards in 9 plays, capped off by Gee Gee Greene 13-yard touchdown run. Navy took the lead 7-0 in a game that could have been 7-6.

On the very next drive, ECU went right down the football field to answer. Lead by quarterback Dominique Davis passing the football, the Pirates went down the field in 8 plays for 78 yards. The drive was capped off by a 3-yard touchdown pass to Lance Lewis to tie the game 7-7.

Navy's next drive stalled out after quarterback Kriss Proctor was knocked out of the game with a hand injury. Sophomore quarterback Trey Miller came in to replace Proctor, but he fumbled the football and ECU recovered. ECU took the ball after the turnover and went 63 yards on 8 plays, once again led by Davis who tossed another touchdown pass, this time hitting Michael Bowman on a 10-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-7.

After a quick three and out by Navy, ECU got the football back with a little under two minutes left. The Pirates drove down the field and with 4 seconds left kicked the field goal to go up 17-7.

ECU quarterback Dominique Davis is a perfect 26 for 26 passing the ball with 251 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The Navy Midshipman took a hit to their offense as quarterback Kriss Proctor was apparently injured, according to a tweet by Gene Wang. The Navy beat writer for the Washington Post tweeted the injury news.

QB Kriss Proctor hit late, holding hand and going to locker room with 7:01 left in first half. Sophomore Trey Miller in at QB.

Prior to the injury, Proctor only had 3 pass attempts and only 28 rushing yards for the game but he is a big part of Navy's triple option. Proctor will be replaced by sophomore quarterback Trey Miller who's only played sparingly in his career. He had some mop up duty against Southern Miss completing 2 of 2 passes for 46 yards. He also had a few carries in some other games, but nothing really noteworthy. The quarterback position is vital to the Navy offense, however.

UPDATE: Wang reports that Proctor will not return to the game.

East Carolina opened up the game with a 4-minute drive that went 44 yards on just 10 plays. After the drive stalled out, the Pirates attempted a 43-yard field goal and missed. Navy got the ball at close to midfield and began to pick up small chunks of yard using their triple option attack. The Midshipmen went 58 yards on 9 plays on the drive, but failed to convert the 4th down try on ECU 18 yard line.

ECU got the football back after the failed fourth down conversion and went another 69 yards on the drive, only to miss another field goal. The first quarter ended mid Navy drive, but the Midshipman have lucked out with two missed field goals by ECU. Navy has the football to start the second quarter however, and they are driving down the field.

A pair of 2-4 teams meet Saturday afternoon in Annapolis, each desperate for a win after a rough start to their respective seasons. The Midshipmen are looking to snap a four game losing streak when they host the Pirates. Here is everything you need to know about Saturday's game:

Who: East Carolina Pirates (2-4, 2-1 Conference USA) vs. Navy Midshipmen (2-4)

Where: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium

When: 3:30 EST

TV Information: Josh Lewin and Randy Cross have the call on CBS Sports Network.

Spread: Navy by 8.5.

Last game: The Midshipmen lost another heartbreaker last Saturday, falling 21-20 at Rutgers. East Carolina ended a two game skid with a 35-17 win over woeful Memphis.

Last season: This is not a typo - Navy beat East Carolina 76-35 last season, in the Pirates' house. Unfortunately for East Carolina, their rush defense is still awful this year (ranked 85th nationally against the run). It could be another long day for East Carolina defenders against a Navy triple option attack that might run the ball 60 times Saturday.

Key absences: The Pirates will be missing three key contributors on offense, making the task of avenging last year's loss that much more difficult. Guard Adhem Elsawi and center Doug Polochak are out with knee injuries, and wide receiver Justin Jones will miss the game with a wrist injury. Darius Staten, Jared Marks, and David Wright are all listed as questionable for the Midshipmen.

We'll be following the lead-up to this game in this StoryStream.

The East Carolina Pirates head into Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium as 10 1/2 point underdogs to the Navy Midshipman. The Pirates will need to worry about stopping Navy quarterback Kriss Proctor, who leads the Midshipmen in both passing and rushing yardage. Dominique Davis will lead the Pirates passing attack against a Navy defense that has had trouble stopping the pass.

Navy on the other hand is coming off four straight losses, including a gut punch one point loss last week to Rutgers who fought back to beat the Midshipman. Navy will look to run the football using their triple option attack, with a few passes mixed in from Proctor. Senior fullback Alexander Teich came back from his one-game suspension last week, and will look to get back to his dominant performances from earlier in the season.
