Although it came down to the wire, TIger Woods was able to edge Bo Van Pelt by two strokes to win the 2012 AT&T National at Congressional.

The two golfers entered the day tied at 6-under and remained deadlocked for most of the afternoon until the 17th hole when a bad drive and approach by Van Pelt opened the door for Woods who pared the hole while Van Pelt shot a bogey. Woods then held off Van Pelt on the 18th to clinch the title with a score for the tournament of 8-under.

This is the third win for Woods on the PGA Tour this year as he has also won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Memorial Tournament.

The leaders are heading down the homestretch at the 2012 AT&T National at Congressional, and Tiger Woods and Bo Van Pelt are in a tight race for the title, as the two are tied at minus nine through 15 holes.

Both golfers began the day at minus six and charged to the front of the pack early on in their rounds. With both tied at minus eight, Woods took the lead with this impressive shot to regain momentum, but Van Pelt stayed cool to also shoot a birdie on the hole to keep the scores tied.

The two continue to go at it, with a dramatic finish very much in the works.

He is facing a field full of competitors that are charging toward the top of the leaderboard, led by Adam Scott, who has exploded on Sunday to minus six. He began the day just one under par but is minus five on Sunday. Brandon de Jong is also just a stroke behind Woods and has been remaining steady at minus six all afternoon.

Intense storms on Friday evening in the Washington metro area caused serious damage and knocked power out for hundreds of thousands of local residents. It also kept spectators off the grounds of the Congressional County Club for the third round of the 2012 AT& T National. As things have begun to return to normal in neighborhoods, it appears the course is in better shape now as well, and fans will once again be allowed in.

In 2009, the last time the AT&T National was played at the Blue Course at Congressional, Tiger Woods won the tournament, fairly easily. After shooting 4-under 67 on Saturday, he might be in position to do so again. Woods is tied for second through 54, just one stroke back of the leader Brendon de Jonge, who fired a 69 in the third round.

"I started off five back, and I needed to make a run," Woods told reporters afterwards. "Whether we have thousands of people or we have a small handful of people out there, it doesn't change the execution of the shot. The shot needs to be placed correctly in the fairway and on the correct side and then fired to the correct spot on the green and then holed. That doesn't change anything.

Joining Woods one stroke back of de Jonge are Bo Van Pelt and Seung-Yul Noh, who shot 67 and 69, respectively, on Saturday. Another stroke beind was Billy Hurley III and Hunter Mahan.

The Washington, D.C. area was hit with severe weather on Friday evening, knocking out power for hundreds of thousands of local residents. It also put quite a hurting on the golf course at Congressional County Club, the host of the 2012 AT& National golf tournament this weekend. Chick Hernandez of CSN Washington tweeted a picture earlier of the damage done to the on-site studio overnight. It gives a sense of how intense the rains and wind were overnight.
