D.C. United lost by a final score of 3-2 to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday evening. It was their first loss in their last five games, and was not enough to knock them from their place atop the Eastern Conference Table.

Black-and-Red lead with 30 points, but their margin narrowed with Sunday's loss. Kansas City is close behind with 29 points. Sporting's loss to Philadelphia on Saturday helped preserve United's lead. New York has 27 points, third in the standings, and Chicago is next on the list with 24.

The San Jose Earthquakes lead the Western Conference with 33 points. San Jose beat Real Salt Lake in their last match, giving them an edge in the standings as Salt Lake now trails by one point. The Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders are in third and fourth place further down the standings, with 26 and 25 points.

The United are at home against Montreal on Saturday. The two teams played to a draw in their last match, in April. Montreal is in eighth place with 18 points.

Chris Pontius scored two goals for D.C. United on Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena, but it wouldn't be enough as the Black-and-Red fell, 3-2.

After getting just three shots on goal in the first half, DCU was much more aggressive in the second half as they finished with 14 shots on goal in the match. They also controlled the ball much better after New York dominated in that area for much of the first half of play.

Pontius scored in the first 28 seconds of the match and for a second time in the 66th minute, but the deciding goal came from the Red Bulls midfielder Jan Gunnar Solli who scored in the 55th minute of the match.

The loss is DCU's first in their last five matches.

D.C. United midfielder Chris Pontius scored the fastest goal in MLS history against the New York Red Bulls at a sold out Red Bull Arena in a record time of 28 seconds. It looked to be a catalyst to getting the match off on the right foot for the Black-and-Red but New York would go on to control the match for much of the first half on Sunday night and the Red Bulls would go into halftime with a 2-1 lead.

After Pontius' goal, DCU would only get two more attempts on goal to the Red Bulls 12 attempts. New York has controlled 63.2 percent of the possessions thus far to the United's 36.8 percent.

Red Bull midfielder Brandon Barklage has led New York's attack in the first half, scoring two goals, one at the 27th minute and the other coming in the 47th minute of play.

Pontius must really enjoy playing the Red Bulls. In April, the forward scored his first professional hat trick against New York, and now he scores less than thirty seconds into Sunday's matchup. After the jump, check out the goal.

Fresh off a last-minute win against the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United heads to Red Bull Arena this weekend for a showdown against New York.

D.C. United plays their second consecutive rivalry game on the road when they travel to Red Bull Arena for a showdown with New York on Sunday. United is coming off a thrilling last-minute victory against the Philadelphia Union on Jan 16.

New York pulled within striking distance of D.C. atop the Eastern Conference with the point they earned at BC Place in Vancouver, but this was on Wednesday night, making the Red Bulls the more travel weary team.

United coach Ben Olsen seems pretty excited about the matchup.

"When the league changed the schedule where we would play New York and Philly and New England more I was pumped," Olsen said earlier this week on the Capital Soccer Show. "I liked playing in those games as a player, I like coaching in them and I think people enjoy watching them."

The match begins at 7 p.m. ET and will broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
